Money Drain: The Unnecessary Hotel Bill

“My husband and I were very excited when my mother offered to watch our daughter for the night, allowing us to have a “kid-free” evening.  We decided we would go rent a hotel room to allow us some “intimate” time together away from life, since we lived in the same house as my parents.  When we got there, however, we were unable to perform as planned and eventually gave up and went back home.  I was so embarrassed about only being there a few hours that I didn’t want to check-out of the hotel until the next day, so I had to drive all the way back.  We spent $80 for one night in a hotel room where we only spent a few hours and nothing happened anyway 🙁

Lesson Learned:
We all need “time away” from home, work, the kids, etc.  But there’s no reason this should cost us money.  Have the grandparent take the child to the park or to visit relatives instead so that you have the house to yourself.  Plan a romantic dinner at home with music, candles, etc.

Amount Flushed Down the Money Drain: $80
