Success Story: I Saved $500/year in one day

A Girl Worth Saving posted an article recently on how she was able to save $500/year in one day by switching car insurance companies.

Every 6 months I call my cable company and tell them I’m going to cancel my service because of the cost. The always cut the cost of my service. I’ve heard that if you go to the cable office with your box you’ll get an even better deal. I saved $25 off my bill for the next six months so that works up to $150

Lesson Learned:
Calling up your periodic bills to try and get better rates is always a good idea. I myself recently saved $600/year by calling up my cable company and asking for a promotional rate. I’ve even checked my cellphone plan on occasion to see that the same plan was now fairly cheaper so all I had to do was switch to the new version of the same plan in order to save money.

The same can be said for making sure you take time to ask for a lower interest rate on your credit cards. I’ve successfully dropped MANY points off my interest rate by doing this :)

Calling every six months seems excessive and will probably get a note put on your account. Eventually they’ll just let you leave rather than deal with someone who isn’t a loyal customer.

  2. Thanks for the mention. We ditched our cell phone contract ($75 a month) and got a tracphone ($72 a year) that we use for when we’re out and about and emergencies so that was a nice savings.
